Weird... one might like to think so. the problem stems from the fact that winsock was justa a bolt-on to windows 3 and it's always been like that. it never got integrated into the rest of the mess ['95/'98/NY] correctly. windows might have a lotta C++ in it but the 'syscall' interface is classic. it truly is a ghastly mess.
