Actually, the devil may have seen the error
of his ways, too late.

The latest release of the Microsoft Developer
Network subscription (an ever-upgraded set
of documentation and articles for people
developing Windows apps, distributed by
Microsoft itself), there is an article on
what they call "DLL hell". It debunks
most of the supposed advantages of dlls
and talks about all the problems they have
caused. They have a 2-part "solution":

1) Windows 2000 will silently undo any
overwrites of the Microsoft dlls.
2) They recommend putting each dll
needed by an app in a private directory
for that app *only*.

Oh boy.
