outlook does s/mime, but it doesn't let you play with headers :(

the trouble is with the MTAs and i/we have no (or not much) control over it.

i don't want the tcp connection in the first place, but if i have to
accept (which i more or less have too) i wanna shut the spammers
down most ricky tick.  so it's SMTP, but then how to i get my UA
to convince the MTA to let me tell 'em who i am.

i see no easy solution to this.

a token in the sig would be simple.  s/mime would be much better,
but then you have to teach all the world about s/mime.

pgp is a train wreck.
