Hi,

I am going to port sam to OS X/Aqua by starting with the Unix/X11 sam
and replacing libXg. Is it the right way, or should I use plan9's sam
as the starting point instead?

David

If you started with the plan9ports version and replaced the
X11 code in libdraw with the appropriate Aqua code, then
all the other apps (in particular, acme) would run on Aqua too.
And that would be great. Right now the plan9port apps run
under the X11 on OS X but they can't be resized to be bigger
than the primary monitor, so if you have multiple screens you
can't make a really really big acme, for instance. (It's not the
ports' fault; the native xterm has the same problem.)

with stew, place top crust and with a fork, seal the crusts together
   then poke holes in top.
Return to oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until pie crust is golden brown.

Sudden Infant Death Soup

SIDS: delicious in winter, comparable to old fashioned Beef and Vegetable Soup.
Its free, you can sell the crib, baby clothes, toys, stroller... and so easy to
procure if such a lucky find is at hand (just pick him up from the crib and
he?s good to go)!

SIDS victim, cleaned
½ cup cooking oil
Carrots
onions
broccoli
whole cabbage
fresh green beans
potato
turnip
celery
tomato
½ stick butter
1 cup cooked pasta (macaroni, shells, etc.)

Remove as much meat as possible, cube, and brown in hot oil.
Add a little water, season, then add the carcass.
Simmer for half an hour keeping the stock thick.
Remove the carcass and add the vegetables slowly to the stock,
so that it remains boiling the whole time.
Cover the pot and simmer till vegetables are tender
   (2 hours approximately).
Continue seasoning to taste.
Before serving, add butter and pasta,
serve piping with hot bread and butter.

Offspring Rolls

Similar to Vietnamese style fried rolls, they have lots of meat

My concern is that no one needs acme under aqua anyway -- no chording?
Or is there a way?

You can't do chords in Aqua? I've been waiting for someone to come along with
a library that eliminates them completely. I'd be a little surprised
if Aqua is the
one, though.

I'd use Acme on Aqua. There are a number of issues with the X port, or perhaps
X itself. I suppose we'd end up with a different set of issues but maybe they'd
be less annoying.

Looks like it is coming from the usenet gateway.
I'll see if I can block that.

down with comp.os.plan9... it only serves as a spam fodder anyway. i
can setup a monthly posting telling people to use 9fans.

I got mail looking like reflector mails from the newsserver
news.karlvalentin.de. It's said, someone used my address for posting
spam to various test groups like alt.test.

I don't know if its true because there are no other NNTP-Servers
reflecting.

Did this happened to someone else here?

I took a short look into the headers but I didn't yet understand.

HAND, Heiko

does anyone out there* read usenet any more anyway? Just wondering, I was
trying to remember my last usenet reading and I *think* it was 10 years
ago. The rise and fall of usenet would make an interesting story, I rate
the final death as occuring the first time I say a posting on comp.arch
with an aol.com return address ... that was it for me.

Only through Google. I still find Google's archives insanely useful,
and when I occasionally follow some new thread it's only as they
trickle into the archives.

The catch 22 is that so few people post to Usenet anymore that I think
its value is waning. The ongoing spam issues don't help any. One day
Google will just give everyone a copy on DVD in their box of Wheaties
and call it done.

Though, it would be interesting to provide RSS feeds of Usenet groups.
 It could help a resurgence.

I also find myself occasionally answering some random, lonely,
unanswered question from 1997 that I randomly come across in Google.
You figure they eventually found the answer or just moved on, but I
like to think that if it doesn't help the original poster it'll help
someone down the road. The Usenet philosophy, I guess.

I think the archive is also good to remind me how much I sounded --
still sound? -- like an ass, and to just keep my mouth shut. Still
trying to learn that lesson.

-Jack

Google's new interface provides atom feeds (although it may not be
advertised) :

example.

Does cycling through my newsrc and catching up on all unread articles
without actually looking at them count as reading?

I used to think that USENET FAQ's were a useful source of collected
information, but I've found the quality has decreased over the last
few years.
