sounds cool.

i did something much simpler, and less invasive, that snooped rwho packets,
with mogul's packet filter, and would show (normally) the load average, or an
up/down status.  the lab was small, so we had the bandwidth and i had the
screen real estate to watch the whole lab.

it showed interesting things, like unterminated coax even though a machine
was was hooked onto the coax.
