It sounds like your venti is so sick that I would reccomend that you just tar off any data you want to keep and start again. If you have a venti history you want you should be able to copy any sealed arenas and reuse them. -Steve --upas-hnuazqqrrimtyhhyjmvgchjink Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Disposition: inline Received: from mail.cse.psu.edu ([130.203.4.6]) by felix; Thu Sep 14 16:58:26 BST 2006 Received: from psuvax1.cse.psu.edu (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by mail.cse.psu.edu (CSE Mail Server) with ESMTP id 7E9FF5AA90 for ; Thu, 14 Sep 2006 11:58:25 -0400 (EDT) X-Original-To: 9fans@cse.psu.edu Delivered-To: 9fans@cse.psu.edu Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by mail.cse.psu.edu (CSE Mail Server) with ESMTP id 2F1EE5AA24 for <9fans@cse.psu.edu>; Thu, 14 Sep 2006 11:56:46 -0400 (EDT) Received: from mail.cse.psu.edu ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (psuvax1 [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with LMTP id 21952-01-58 for <9fans@cse.psu.edu>; Thu, 14 Sep 2006 11:56:45 -0400 (EDT) Received: from wr-out-0506.google.com (wr-out-0506.google.com [64.233.184.226]) by mail.cse.psu.edu (CSE Mail Server) with ESMTP id E0F4F5AA29 for <9fans@cse.psu.edu>; Thu, 14 Sep 2006 11:56:44 -0400 (EDT) Received: by wr-out-0506.google.com with SMTP id i28so918242wra for <9fans@cse.psu.edu>; Thu, 14 Sep 2006 08:56:44 -0700 (PDT) DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=beta; d=gmail.com; h=received:message-id:date:from:to:subject:in-reply-to:mime-version:content-type:content-transfer-encoding:content-disposition:references; b=Ki+j5egk1Hx9rDNI+GqFM8ombL6Rn8cByWqj6hWT9d8XWOazbCuIzx7uPskF6wMxvFfXc4X2hnjrnEBVj5sur/Lkp7lPhYHTD8/eFfcYVXbgt9Z8dnEaWM0t9hsAgt75I5vCPywnF2OEHN/yqVjEPdTkenTZVkNiqX4ELUPHPWY= Received: by 10.90.66.9 with SMTP id o9mr905115aga; Thu, 14 Sep 2006 08:56:43 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.90.71.7 with HTTP; Thu, 14 Sep 2006 08:56:43 -0700 (PDT) Message-ID: <7871fcf50609140856i41a3bd72tb42b53f184901fb0@mail.gmail.com> Date: Thu, 14 Sep 2006 11:56:43 -0400 From: "Joel Salomon" To: 9fans <9fans@cse.psu.edu> In-Reply-To: <7871fcf50609121915i68a66317ubdf9c13660ec6e65@mail.gmail.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline References: <7871fcf50609121915i68a66317ubdf9c13660ec6e65@mail.gmail.com> X-Virus-Scanned: by amavisd-new at cse.psu.edu Subject: [9fans] Re: Hang after "init: starting /bin/rc" X-BeenThere: 9fans@cse.psu.edu X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: Fans of the OS Plan 9 from Bell Labs <9fans@cse.psu.edu> List-Id: Fans of the OS Plan 9 from Bell Labs <9fans.cse.psu.edu> List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Sender: 9fans-bounces+steve=quintile.net@cse.psu.edu Errors-To: 9fans-bounces+steve=quintile.net@cse.psu.edu On 9/12/06, Joel Salomon wrote: > I'm installing Plan 9 on a Thinkpad T23. I'm getting the same lack of progress if I try the "Live CD" > option of the boot disc. This is from an image downloaded an hour or > so ago, 2006-09-12. Problem's back. While the system was running, I uncommented the ip/ipconfig lines in (/rc)/bin/termrc and my machine was connecting to the network at school. When I booted the machine not attached to a network, though, I got the lines: init: starting /bin/rc (long pause -- at least 30 seconds) ndb/dns: can't read my ip address after which nothing more happens. Trouble is, the system now hangs (without displaying the ndb/dns message) even when connected to the network (and after displying the ndb/dns message if I re-disconnect). I can't even get into the system far enough to breadcrumb /bin/termrc and /usr/chesky/lib/profile . --Joel --upas-hnuazqqrrimtyhhyjmvgchjink--
