RAID controllers are expensive, overly complex and prone to failure. i didn't agree 'cos i'd seen one that didn't fail. however i was compelled by his logic that the controller i was using [Digital Storageworks] expensive and probably over complex. we agreed that mirroring is simpler, less error prone and now that disks are cheap going to RAID5 is a complete waste when it can be trivially replaced with mirroring.
