Some have many (pc, laptop, pda, camera, mobiles); if on the average each person has 2 - including those collecting dust in the closet - that's 3.2B. It jibes with the estimated total number of mobile subscribers (about 2.6B) worldwide. wouldn't manufacturers keep track of unit production?
