How about just masking off the top few bits when checking for delimiters? Not really a clean solution, but certainly simple. It would mean some long numbers in subfont files. If we use the top 4 bits: 0x10000000 0x1000001f /mnt/font/MyriadPro-It/36a/x0000.bit That doesn't look as bad as I thought it would.
