I'm confused. UNIX applications can't exit without issuing the close system call. The exit system call internally calls out to close for each open file. Unless some numskull changed it since the last time I had my fingers in it. (They've had plenty of opportunity -- I haven't touched a non-BSD UNIX kernel in many years.) -- Tom Duff.
