Subject: [9fans] (Newbie) Problems with Riva TNT
Date: Sat, 29 Nov 2003 15:31:51 +0000 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <1070119911.59e74f400102806H@student.gla.ac.uk> (raw)
When I start up into plan 9 (which I installed from the nightly build at ureg.html) I get this error message:
aux/vga: nvidia: segattach nvidiammio, size 16777216: bad arg in system call
Looking at the google groups archives someone else had this problem a couple of months ago, and recompiling the kernel solved the problem. Well ( :) ), I tried recompiling the kernel, but to be honest I didn't have a clue what I was doing. Here are the steps I tried:
1. root is from local. Login as user sys.
2. cd /sys/src. mk kernels.
From the error messages I got from this, I edited the mkfiles in 9, boot, and fs so that it would only try to build for pc.
Then I did mk kernels again.
3. Rebooted the computer. Got the old error message again.
From this I am guessing that the above steps didn't install a new kernel. What should I have done?
The bootup cd does graphics fine with the default options (640x480x8, xga), so I know it works sometimes. Looking in /386 some files are dated today, but some are dated some time in late september.
I altered vganvidia.c to do really silly things, to see if I was actually using my new version, but it doesn't seem to be.
I'll be grateful for any advice,
Richard Hunt, 0102806h@student.gla.ac.uk
