the trivial stuff you deal with first, like the default 8MB thread
stack which makes the machine fall over.

But it still seems to very hard on a linux box to spawn 5k threads and
run them, one thread to a socket. The whole machine just starts to bog
down.

I did not write this particular code, was only a victim of it.
