I just asked the people who were there, on TUHS, and they confirmed my memory: DARPA funding for BSD support ended in 1995, and that was probably the biggest factor in ending the UCB activities in BSD. I think it's important to verify claims with primary sources. Many of those people are still alive. Thank you for the clearance. Looking from a distance I misinterpreted the real reasons and I never met the primary sources in person. That was my interpretation and as it seems it was wrong.
