does anyone have experience with data recovery companies?  i have an
8mm tape with a tar on it that was written on an ibm about 6 years
ago.  it contains some data from a high energy physics experiment that
we would like to revisit, but attempts to read it give only a partial
read and then tape errors.  i get the impression these companies are a
one-shot deal, so i'd like to choose a reputable one.

sorry for the non-plan 9 post, but there seem to be a good number of
people here "in the know"...
