Subject: [9fans] [absolute newbie] Problems with Riva TNT
Date: Mon, 1 Dec 2003 11:06:08 +0000	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <18ae804a.0311270906.1354ef15@posting.google.com> (raw)

I am having the same problems as someone else had in the thread
[9fans] Nvidia TNT troubles. But, I only just started using plan 9
right now, so I have absolutely no idea what I am doing :(.

I installed directly from cd, without using a boot floppy, the only
thing that I had to do was change the boot path. The graphical
interface loaded fine when I was doing the install, but when I first
boot the system and login I get this:

aux/vga: nvidia: segattach nvidiammio, size 16777216: bad arg in
system

(that was typed in by hand, so might not be exact)

Is there a way that I can get this working without recompiling the
kernel, since I have no idea how to do that yet.

Or, if that part is easy, where do I get the latest vganvidia from?

I can't even get the text editor to load, is this because of the above
problem?

I will be grateful for any assistance you can give me

Richard Hunt

My computer:

plan9 installed on /dev/hda3, booting with lilo (no problems with
this)
linux installed on /dev/hda[56]
broken windows install on /dev/hda1 (I think the plan9 install was
responsible for breaking this - or at least my use of the plan 9
installer :)

AMD K6/2 400
64Mb ram
NVIDIA Riva TNT 16Mb (It's a creative graphics blaster)
Aureal vortex sound card (I assume there will be no support for this?)
16x generic dvd drive
3.5" floppy drive
56k generic modem - but I have no internet connection, so I can't do
any direct installs from the internet. I do have access to the
internet and cd burners on university computers, however.

I have five years experience with linux, including setting up kernels
etc, if this will be any use to me.
