Clearly you think you've done this. Could you send me the relevant lines from /lib/ndb/local? ------ original message follows ------ >>From cse.psu.edu!9fans-outgoing-owner Thu Aug 10 17:12:10 EDT 1995 Received: by psuvax1.cse.psu.edu id <34155>; Thu, 10 Aug 1995 16:46:54 -0400 Received: from noao.edu ([140.252.1.54]) by psuvax1.cse.psu.edu with SMTP id <34152>; Thu, 10 Aug 1995 16:46:18 -0400 Received: from gemini.tuc.noao.edu by noao.edu (4.1/SAG-Noao.G102) id AA29575; Thu, 10 Aug 95 13:46:04 MST; for 9fans@cse.psu.edu Received: from daikon.tuc.noao.edu.noao by gemini.tuc.noao.edu (4.1/SAG.sat.14) id AA09147; Thu, 10 Aug 95 13:46:03 MST; for 9fans@cse.psu.edu Received: by daikon.tuc.noao.edu.noao (4.1/SAG.sun.8) id AA02374; Thu, 10 Aug 95 13:46:02 MST; for 9fans@cse.psu.edu Date: Thu, 10 Aug 1995 16:46:02 -0400 From: rwolff@noao.edu (Richard Wolff) Message-Id: <9508102046.AA02374@daikon.tuc.noao.edu.noao> To: 9fans@cse.psu.edu Subject: Question on network setup Sender: owner-9fans@cse.psu.edu Precedence: bulk Reply-To: 9fans@cse.psu.edu When my 486 boots, it prints out an error message that I need to edit /ndb/local and reboot. Having done that many times, it's clear something else is wanted. Also, /ndb/cs does not set sysname and the local tcp network isn't available. However, if I tell ip/ipconfig what the ip address of my machine is by way of a command line argument, the /ndb/local error message goes away, the network is accessible, and I just have to mount #P and poke some routes at iproute. Is there something I should do so the initial setup (aside from the routing) happens automagically as the error message seems to imply? (Gateway 486, enet board WD8013EPC) Richard
