It complains that I don't have enough disk space after the DOS partition, by about 4MB. This is a little irritating. :-) The PC's disk claims to be a 544MB disk, and the DOS partition takes about 2MB (I asked for 1MB, but there you go), which should leave plenty. But apparently not. I'm possibly falling foul of varying definitions of a megabyte (1,000,000 bytes vs. 1,048,576 bytes), but even if that's the case, that only chops 26MB off the disk, leaving about 518MB (FDISK thinks the disk has 519MB). This should still leave me with plenty of space... A more extreme method was to try installing the CD directly to a Sun running /sparc/9ssfs. However, after that kernel loads via tftp, it doesn't do anything. I'd expected the config: prompt, but it appears to have hung. ^T^Tr and L1-A don't do anything. This was a surprise, because 9ss and 9sscd both work. steve
