Do not apply jmk fix unless the disk does not work. Its supposed to
do this. It means the scsi driver saw an unexpected disconnect
from the drive and decided to play it safe by moving to non
disconnecting mode. It will retry the IO and by the looks of it
succeed.

I used to get similar messages on my ss2 fileserver, but a fix from
Jim (recompile with the old scsi driver from the first edition) fixed
it.

Yep. it's an SS2, with 64MB.

As far as I know. Also, I've tried:
	- booting as you suggest
	- booting from a power reset
	- booting straight after halting SunOS

with no apparent differences in results.

I haven't seen any errors at all. It finishes downloading the kernel,
and That's All She Wrote. :-(
