This presentation would have played better if it had appeared before McKie's. But, even more briefly than my first try: the research part of AT&T Bell Labs will split as well into No-name-yet Bell Labs and AT&T Laboratories, with more people in the first than the second, and with the first more involved with products and the second with services. There is no strong reason to believe yet that our own group will be in the one rather than the other, nor indeed to prefer one to the other, though certainly people are conjugating the prospects of both companies and the opportunities they offer. It's too soon to say. One observation, however: those who listened to the very end of Bob Allen's press conference heard this: Q: What about McKie and Flandrena? A: Wasn't that in the written material? They will be sent to Bellcore. Dennis
