A couple people mailed me reminding me to start /bin/ndb/dns (the Domain
Name Service program). I had to fiddle with my /lib/ndb/local file a
little before everything worked, but eventually it happened.

Also, use the fully qualified hostname (at least at first). I spent a
lot of time typing "telnet tucson" (tucson being a host in my domain)
and that name was not translated correctly.

Jesse, you posted this last week sometime:

I have exactly the same problem but noticed that nobody responded to the
list. Have you had a personal reply from any of the guys at AT&T ? If
so could you mail me the solution (if there is one).

Thanks in advance,
stephen

I have edited and re-edited /lib/ndb/local and I can't figure out how to
get hostname resolution working. This breaks things like mothra, which
need to look up hostnames. All the other net stuff works fine, I can telnet
and use ftpfs, as long as I know the IP address of the machine I want to
connect to.

Any advice ?

I'm using this for host jhammons.student.princeton.edu with ipaddr
140.180.150.152, gateway 140.180.128.1, netmask 255.255.224.0 and
nameserver 140.180.128.58.

dom=
	ns=dormserver.princeton.edu
dom=dormserver.princeton.edu ip=140.180.128.53

sys = jhammons
	dom=jhammons.student.princeton.edu
	ip=140.180.150.152 ether=0080AD082589
	ipmask=255.255.224.0
ipnet=dormnet ip=140.180.128.0 ipmask=255.255.224.0
	ipgw=140.180.128.1
[followed by protocols, etc]

thanks,
- Jesse
