The new diskettes available by ftp should allow you to install
directly on d:. You will have to decrease hdb5 by some amount
and NOT make a hdb6 - Plan 9 installs in space not allocated in
the normal master boot record partition list.

Hi Everyone,

I want to install Plan9 on my pc. I have read the documentation, and have seen
a few messages about installing on this newsgroup, but I still have a question.

I run Linux and DOS on my PC right now. The C: drive can't be repartitioned
to allow room for Plan9, but my D: drive can. I can make an empty partition
on my D: drive for Plan9. It would also be the highest partition on the D:
drive. Is there a way I can make the install process use the highest partition
on the D: drive instead of the C: drive ?

Here is a listing from fdisk. I plan to decrease /dev/hdb5 by the 20MB needed
for Plan9 (it would be around 80000 blocks instead of 100462), then create
a new partition /dev/hdb6 of 20MB for Plan9, then hope the install goes
there instead of wiping out the 386568 (/dev/hda3) partition on the C: drive.

HELP !

/dev/hda is the C: drive. /dev/hdb is the D: drive.

Disk /dev/hda: 16 heads, 63 sectors, 1059 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 bytes

   Device Boot Begin Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1   *       1       1     271  136583+   6  DOS 16-bit >=32M
/dev/hda2         272     272     292   10584   83  Linux
/dev/hda3         293     293    1059  386568   83  Linux

Disk /dev/hdb: 15 heads, 57 sectors, 789 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 855 * 512 bytes

   Device Boot Begin Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hdb1           2       2     236  100462+   5  Extended
/dev/hdb2         237     237     258    9405   83  Linux
/dev/hdb3         259     259     790  227430   83  Linux
/dev/hdb5           2       2     236  100462    6  DOS 16-bit >=32M
