You will have to decrease hdb5 by some amount and NOT make a hdb6 - Plan 9 installs in space not allocated in the normal master boot record partition list. ------ original message follows ------ >>From cse.psu.edu!9fans-outgoing-owner Wed Nov 15 16:31:43 EST 1995 Received: by colossus.cse.psu.edu id <78445>; Wed, 15 Nov 1995 16:24:00 -0500 Received: from goggins.bath.ac.uk ([138.38.32.13]) by colossus.cse.psu.edu with SMTP id <78448>; Wed, 15 Nov 1995 16:12:28 -0500 Received: from bath.ac.uk (actually host solomon.bath.ac.uk) by goggins.bath.ac.uk with SMTP (PP); Wed, 15 Nov 1995 19:48:29 +0000 Original-Received: from GATEWAY by bath.ac.uk with netnews for 9fans@bath.ac.uk (9fans@cse.psu.edu) PP-warning: Illegal Received field on preceding line To: cse.psu.edu!9fans Date: Tue, 14 Nov 1995 20:26:21 -0500 From: "Jeff C." Sender: cse.psu.edu!owner-9fans Precedence: bulk Reply-To: cse.psu.edu!9fans Hi Everyone, I want to install Plan9 on my pc. I have read the documentation, and have seen a few messages about installing on this newsgroup, but I still have a question. I run Linux and DOS on my PC right now. The C: drive can't be repartitioned to allow room for Plan9, but my D: drive can. I can make an empty partition on my D: drive for Plan9. It would also be the highest partition on the D: drive. Is there a way I can make the install process use the highest partition on the D: drive instead of the C: drive ? Here is a listing from fdisk. I plan to decrease /dev/hdb5 by the 20MB needed for Plan9 (it would be around 80000 blocks instead of 100462), then create a new partition /dev/hdb6 of 20MB for Plan9, then hope the install goes there instead of wiping out the 386568 (/dev/hda3) partition on the C: drive. HELP ! /dev/hda is the C: drive. /dev/hdb is the D: drive.
