Make sure you have the latest aux/vga and lib/vgadb fixes, there were some bugs introduced when Hercules changed the RAMDAC on the board. If you can supply the brand of card, chip types and BIOS id string it would help in tracking down the problem. I'm assuming here that you have followed the usual debug procedure for vga problems and have determined there's no error message lurking in the dark at the end of your screen. ------ forwarded message follows ------ >>From cse.psu.edu!9fans-outgoing-owner Wed Dec 27 11:10:21 EST 1995 Received: from colossus.cse.psu.edu by plan9; Wed Dec 27 11:10:21 EST 1995 Received: by colossus.cse.psu.edu id <78424>; Wed, 27 Dec 1995 10:48:17 -0500 Received: from goggins.bath.ac.uk ([138.38.32.13]) by colossus.cse.psu.edu with SMTP id <78427>; Wed, 27 Dec 1995 10:13:29 -0500 Received: from bath.ac.uk (actually host solomon.bath.ac.uk) by goggins.bath.ac.uk with SMTP (PP); Wed, 27 Dec 1995 15:13:02 +0000 Original-Received: from GATEWAY by bath.ac.uk with netnews for 9fans@bath.ac.uk (9fans@cse.psu.edu) PP-warning: Illegal Received field on preceding line To: cse.psu.edu!9fans Date: Thu, 21 Dec 1995 06:19:09 -0500 From: Peter Allworth Message-ID: <4bbfre$ou3@kettle.magna.com.au> Organization: Linear Solutions Pty Ltd Subject: Tseng ET4000/W32P PCI card? Plan9 seems to think everying's OK, but the screen goes blank. It's as though there's an extra bit that needs setting to turn on the video output, or perhaps the I/O map is different. I have exactly the same problem with xfree86 under Linux. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone with any working PCI VGA card. (8 1/2 is pretty feeble at 640x480x1)
