Can someone explain what are the differences in term of functionality
and performances between a dedicated file server and a kfs process on
a stand alone PC?

What I know or suspect:
file server stand-alone
-----------------------------------------
fs(8) commands kfscmd(8) commands
worm file system	no worm file system
scsi only scsi or ide
anonymous & permanent	reboot to change the user using the console
