The Flashpoint from Buslogic is new and doesn't adhere to the same driver interface as the older controllers; someday there may be a driver. It's unlikely there will ever be an Adaptec 29xx driver. My choice would be the Buslogic 946 or 956. ------ forwarded message follows ------ >>From cse.psu.edu!9fans-outgoing-owner Thu May 2 12:53:52 EDT 1996 Received: from colossus.cse.psu.edu by plan9; Thu May 2 12:53:52 EDT 1996 Received: by colossus.cse.psu.edu id <79144>; Thu, 2 May 1996 12:27:27 -0400 Received: from mail.rent-a-guru.de ([194.120.69.70]) by colossus.cse.psu.edu with SMTP id <79145>; Thu, 2 May 1996 12:27:05 -0400 Received: from uucp.rent-a-guru.de by mail.rent-a-guru.de via SMTP (951211.SGI.8.6.12.PATCH1042/951211.SGI) for <9fans@cse.psu.edu> id SAA05428; Thu, 2 May 1996 18:18:16 +0200 Received: from mwtech by uucp.rent-a-guru.de with UUCP (5.65+/MIKROS-5.0) id AA01519; Thu, 2 May 96 18:14:17 +0200 Received: by mwtech.rent-a-guru.de (5.65+/MIKROS-5.0) id AA09095; Thu, 2 May 96 16:05:19 GMT From: Martin Weitzel Message-Id: <9605021605.AA09095@mwtech.rent-a-guru.de> Subject: SCSI recommendations? At some point in the future I want to acquire a new system with a 586 PCI motherboard. My hardware supplier lists the following PCI-SCSI controllers: - Adaptec 2940 (also "W" and "UW") - Adaptec 2920 / TMC 3260 - Buslogic FLASHPOINT LT - Buslogic(?) KT 930 SGT - Buslogic(?) KT 950 SGTX As I understand, the Adaptec 2940 is not (yet?) supported. The FAQ mentions that "Buslogic Controllers are the most trouble-free", does this include the FLASHPOINT LT? As it costs only half as much as the Adaptec I fear it is a stripped down design (LT == light?) that leaves much to the driver software and the general statement that Plan 9 "works with ALL Buslogic Controllers" might not be applicable. Any recommendations? I'm not limited to the above list, so feel free to add your proposal!
