"Inferno called to the bar"
British Steel has developed a new computer-based system which allows
a furnaceman to "see inside" furnaces used to reheat billets for
rerolling into high-quality bar.
Provisionally named Inferno, the system is a significant advance on
previous monitoring and control methods, as it provides an on-line
method of predicting reheating performance and regulates furnace
conditions to achieve the desired results. The predictive
information includes real-time furnace conditions and a model based
on historical data.
So that's what it's all about.
