Nevertheless, how is it possible to connect to a Plan9-Machine as
an 'ordinary' user with ftp e.g. ?

just use ftp as per normal, but you'll need a securenet key to login.
start with securenet(8).

i am aware that some people have chosen to break telnet and ftp on plan 9
so they actually accept passwords, but that, of course, is unaccceptable.

Hi,
I've tried the connection between several computers (sparcs, 486)
in Plan9 with telnet and mothra, and even over some UNIX-machines
with rlogin, telnet, netscape and so on.
But I can only connect to a Plan9-machine as a none-user.
Although this works quite well.

Nevertheless, how is it possible to connect to a Plan9-Machine as
an 'ordinary' user with ftp e.g. ?
