styx is quite close to 9p, as you can see from its definition in the inferno books.
here are the differences i can recall:
authentication is a separate phase before styx starts:
thus the connection is authenticated, not each Tattach.
the append and lock mode bits aren't there.
Tsession/Rsession aren't used.
the message numbering (Txyz and Rxyz) is different.
