that's true, but if an AGP device is built in they don't necessarily (ever?)
provide an AGP slot as well.

Usually the BIOS allows one to disable the on-board video
and sound functions, so you can plug in suitable cards.

The Asus CUSL2 board has the Intel i815E with on-board video and provides an
AGP
slot.

My friends are bugging me to get a new PC because my Pentium 233 MMX spoils the
fun of a LAN-party... The CUSL2 seems to be one of the few "sensible" boards
I've come across in my search. Any reasons why it might not support Plan 9?

Which current boards are recommended by the Plan 9 crowd?
Note: I will definitely be using SCSI disks - ideally I would like to
completely
disable the onboard EIDE ports and use IRQs 14 and 15 for something useful.
I've heard that many boards do not allow this, some Athlon boards even have
additional EIDE ports which cannot be disabled at all :-(

Andrew.

I'm using an ASUS CUSL2 for Plan 9 as well as
several other OSes. I have an ATI Xpert-98 PCI
video card. (I used to have an Xpert-128 but I
had to swap it out, since Plan 9 doesn't support
RAGE-128 cards.)

not always. My plan9 install is on a box with what they now
call a legacy style parent board; no on board video or sound
modem or NIC. Easiest OS install I've done in a couple of
years.
