Just a couple of questions wrt administration/configuration... In principle I want to have all machines get their filesystem off the fs. However, the cpu/auth server has a local disk that I basically don't want to use (I already forgot once to 'disk/kfscmd halt' before turning off the machine, and still have to clean up the result), but I do want to have a filesystem there as fall-back to boot from, e.g. in case of serious problems with the fs. The manual suggests that update(8) is the thing I need to keep the 'local' filesystem in sync, correct? Note: update(8) manpage says that it will use proto file 386proto; however, /rc/bin/pc/update uses portproto. Are there any places in which I could want to customize the portproto file? (anyway, local customization of it can be best done by adding a new proto file, rather than editing the existing ones, right?) Related question: my cpu/auth server is slow (pentium 150MHz) and has only 32M ram (currently). The fs is on a different subnet (but is still nearby). Does it make sense to use cfs, or would that only clobber resources? Wrt the fs: is there/what is the difference between sntp and ntp (as used by timesync)? Can I just use the same ntp server that I use from the cpu server? Axel. (who though he had more questions, but cannot think of them now)
