I boot off the install floppy and I have the distribution in the CD drive. I get to the point where the install script begins to unpack the distribution and I get a "no physical memory" error. I had thought 32M was enough memory for a standalone install, so I begin again and look at the stats window. Even a the very beginning of the install process, about 75% of my memory is already used up! So I open another window and do a ps, and this is what I see: glenda 1 0:00 0:00 64K Wait init glenda 2 0:30 0:00 0K kproc genrandom glenda 3 0:00 0:00 0K kproc alarm glenda 8 0:01 0:00 3676K Read kfs glenda 12 0:00 0:00 3636K Read kfs glenda 13 0:00 0:00 0K Idle pager glenda 14 0:00 0:00 116K Wait rc glenda 15 0:00 0:00 124K Wait cpurc glenda 19 0:00 0:00 0K kproc floppy glenda 33 0:00 0:00 480K Read9p dossrv glenda 62 0:00 0:00 780K Wait rio glenda 63 0:00 0:01 780K Rendez rio glenda 64 0:00 0:00 780K Read rio glenda 65 0:00 0:00 780K Read rio glenda 66 0:00 0:00 780K Rendez rio glenda 67 0:00 0:00 780K Read rio glenda 68 0:00 0:00 780K Read rio glenda 86 0:00 0:00 148K Sleep stats glenda 94 0:00 0:00 20K Read tailfsrv glenda 103 0:00 0:00 184K Wait mainloop glenda 115 0:00 0:00 140K Read stats glenda 116 0:00 0:01 148K Read stats glenda 125 0:00 0:00 204K Read main glenda 330 0:00 0:00 36K Read read glenda 332 0:00 0:00 780K Wait rio glenda 333 0:00 0:00 116K Wait rc glenda 337 0:00 0:00 48K Read ps So my question is: Should I be able to do a standalone installation on a machine with 32M of memory? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Stephen Griese ________________________________________________ PeoplePC: It's for people. And it's just smart. http://www.peoplepc.com
