It can't detect 128 bit ATi cards because it doesn't support them.
The way round it is to write a driver, but I guess this is not for you
at this stage.

I'm trying to install Plan 9, and rio won't start.  Apparently, it can't
detect my ATI Rage 128 PCI.  Is there any way around this?  I can't find
another video card, and I'd like to get it up and running.  Any ideas?
