Unfortunately, I can't remember whether the letters mean PC vs Mouse Systems or PC vs Microsoft, so you'll need to try the switch both ways. On those mice, only the Mouse Systems protocol supports 3 buttons. I think that's right but it has been ages since I used a serial mouse and I'm not at the office so I can't check the setting on the old mouse I've got in a cupboard. Dixons was selling 3-button Logitech pilot mice for a tenner recently with PS/2-serial adapters. --upas-qszwlspnblxmzilyfzjiclknxz Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Disposition: inline Return-Path: <9fans-admin@cse.psu.edu> Received: from punt-1.mail.demon.net by mailstore for forsyth@caldo.demon.co.uk id 1012097661:10:10272:47; Sun, 27 Jan 2002 02:14:21 GMT Received: from psuvax1.cse.psu.edu ([130.203.4.6]) by punt-1.mail.demon.net id aa1118511; 27 Jan 2002 2:14 GMT Received: from psuvax1.cse.psu.edu (psuvax1.cse.psu.edu [130.203.30.6]) by mail.cse.psu.edu (CSE Mail Server) with ESMTP id 8DD6C199E8; Sat, 26 Jan 2002 21:12:10 -0500 (EST) Delivered-To: 9fans@cse.psu.edu Received: from pc1-dale5-0-cust136.not.cable.ntl.com (pc1-dale5-0-cust136.not.cable.ntl.com [80.1.76.136]) by mail.cse.psu.edu (CSE Mail Server) with SMTP id 16FD319988 for <9fans@cse.psu.edu>; Sat, 26 Jan 2002 21:11:10 -0500 (EST) Received: (qmail 50624 invoked from network); 27 Jan 2002 02:11:06 -0000 Received: from localhost (HELO matt.thebigchoice.com) (127.0.0.1) by localhost with SMTP; 27 Jan 2002 02:11:06 -0000 To: 9fans@cse.psu.edu Message-Id: <20020127021106.34ebdead.matt@proweb.co.uk> In-Reply-To: <000701c1a488$2d12d140$c4af590c@default> References: <000701c1a488$2d12d140$c4af590c@default> X-Mailer: Sylpheed version 0.7.0 (GTK+ 1.2.10; i386--freebsd4.4) Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: [9fans] No MBR and mice Sender: 9fans-admin@cse.psu.edu Errors-To: 9fans-admin@cse.psu.edu X-BeenThere: 9fans@cse.psu.edu X-Mailman-Version: 2.0.8 Precedence: bulk Reply-To: 9fans@cse.psu.edu List-Help: List-Id: Fans of the OS Plan 9 from Bell Labs <9fans.cse.psu.edu> List-Archive: Date: Sun, 27 Jan 2002 02:11:06 +0000 Hi, I've been trying to put an already working plan9 HD onto an older PC MB tonight It's an 8Gb IDE. On the newer PC when it boots it reports no MBR on the disk but will still boot into plan9 but on the older one it gave me the "no MBR or I/O Error, press almost any key to reboot" message. Okay well, I wasn't too bothered about the contents of the HD so I re-installed using the old components. Same result. I've got it booting from floppy but I was wondering if it's worth fiddling with the BIOS? supplemental : On my travels I've bought a few 3 button serial mouses but the middle button seems to not work yet to add insult I can't use a KB modifier (ctrl isn't it?) to simulate the 3rd button and pressing 1 & 3 simultaneously fails too. Is there any special voodoo to get button 2 working. One of the mice has a PC/MS switchover button but PC mode just send's it haywire. cheers M --upas-qszwlspnblxmzilyfzjiclknxz--
