https://lists.cse.psu.edu/archives/9fans is still there, but for some
reason, our sysadmins have decided to accept only ssl (https) connections.
I've started keeping a copy at http://bio.cse.psu.edu/~schwartz/9fans ,
which includes the material from 1993 to 2000, before the previously
mentioned sysadmins switched us to newer and more annoying list management
software.
