Subject: [9fans] Modem line in for Xirom Modem + Ethernet REM-56G-10(?)
Date: Sat, 4 May 2002 22:46:00 +0200	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <200205042046.g44Kk0q13296@copernicus.cs.utwente.nl> (raw)

Unfortunately the card is now stuck in the laptop,
and I'm using it to type this message, so I cannot read the
label on it, but its a 'thick' Xircom 16-bit Ethernet + Modem 56,
(10 Mb/s Ethernet). To get it working I just added the string
	"REM10",
in the modems[] array in /sys/src/9/pc/pcmciamodem.c.

Then it is automatically found by the new kernel that includes
this change.
Somehow I just get a 9600 baud connection, but that
might be some setup/options lacking when I invoke ppp?

Sidenote: I encountered the same ppp problem I mentioned
before on this list: unresponsive remote ppp daemon,
which I (again) crudely fixed by putting also a HDLC_frame
character at the start of each frame (actually, just one
at the start of the very first frame oover the line seems
already to do the trick I discovered previously using 3e).

Question: I'm still confused about the exact command
sequence needed to make ndb work once the ppp connection
is up and running -- somehow I have to do some manual
trickery to get dns resolving working. Is there a quick
'recipe' for this?

Axel.
