Rarely, I suspect. The fact that almost no code actually checks for the
no-match case strongly implies that that behaviour is counter-intuitive
to (or perhaps more accurately, unexpected by) most people.

I'm beginning to think that globbing should just come out of the shell.
On most current hardware the cost of spawning `{ls *.foo} is negligible.
