This is fine and good, (a) in person, (b) in a work or school environment, where the relationship is clearly not peer-to-peer, and both sides agree and understand that. Those conditions don't apply to the mailing list/newsgroup, where the "RTFM, you idiot" attitude, without even a pointer as to which FM to R, is just likely to drive people away. It's particularly inappropriate when, as is the case here, the original questioner has shown a willingness to do his own research when pointed in the right direction. Arnold
