The cost for the Inspiron is in the shipping; the thing's a tank. I just did a net install on an Inspiron 3500 and it's working fine, modulo sound. Same Pentium II, XGA TFT, and 440BX chipset as the 7000, but about 2/3 the height and a bit lighter. Sadly, it also has the same detestable two-button trackpad. Would be nice if one of the useless "billg ego keys" could be used as a third mouse button instead of shift+button 2.
