Maybe, maybe not. The two machines on which I've tried his driver both worked in the end. The one I'm using now worked right off the bat after getting vgadb happy. The other one used a chip that wasn't exactly supported. However, I did do a bit of ugly hacking and got it there by comparing register values between X11 and Plan 9. I never got it to the point where I felt like I had something that could be submitted back as a patch, but I did get it working. It sounds like you're likely to be in the same boat.
