yes: upas tries to look up the mx record.
	dnslookup smtp.east.cox.net
fails. there is a problem with their setup.

however, upas/smtp should fall back to the a record.
i wonder why that is not happening.

the function you're interested in is in upas/smtp/mxdial.c
