Other people have mentioned the same
problem you had.  I don't understand it,
and I haven't seen it myself.

If your CD-ROM was the secondary slave
before (and is now the primary slave),
you might try making it the secondary master.

I think we don't cope correctly when there's
a secondary slave without a master.
