not good enough.
the scale of sub-expressions is important too.

there's already something that does this, to a good approximation.
it's called the FPU.

i wrote it nearly 15 years ago.
it's almost trivially simple. (ok, it gained a couple of excrescences
early on, but i knocked 'em off for the inferno version).
i just pointed it out because it's one of the very few
tools i've written that i've found consistently useful
and usable. if you don't like the way it works, ignore it.
i really don't see the problem.
