Reinstalling Plan9 on the first partition (cylinders 0 - 251) resulted in a functional system. Unfortunately I did all this before seeing your reply, and the original plan9.ini's are gone. FWIW, my first attempt had Plan9 on partition 3, which was supposed to extend from cylinder 305 to cylinder 505. I had used the install diskette's bootsetup program to configure a boot diskette and to allow the Plan9 partition to boot as well. The wrenwrite error occurred in both cases. EM
