Different subsystems appear to have designs, but there doesn't seem to be anything stopping people from stomping all over the structures and glue that make it possible for a driver to last very long without updates needed. At least that's been my experience. In fact the evolutionary nature appears to have been backed as an advantage by Linus himself. Dave
