My idea was that it's hierarchical:
	<os><event><location>
thus you can tell if you're interested by a right-to-left parse.
(This assumes some degree of global interest).
e.g.
	9filmcannes
would be some 9fans going to see a film (or films) in Cannes,
whereas
	yukbutkisspoughkeepsie
would be windows weenies going bowling with their boss in Poughkeepsie.

all i know is it would be nice if we do it. in fact, a periodic 9SIG
meeting is also not a bad idea.

i checked up usenix site for the boston conference. personally, i dont
think it would interest me as it is 99% non-plan9. i am keen in learning
more of plan9.

I think cheap-and-friendly is the way to go:
get a bunch of 9ers together with:
* a network (or Matt and an RJ-45)
* some beer and soft drinks
* some food

If someone has a reasonable sized house and the will to do it,
it could be done there,
otherwise it'll take some cash and a school hall or similar.

I learned more from talking to people and looking over Charles Forsyth's
shoulder for ~1.5 days than I would have from a week of tutorials.

I keep unashamedly pushing the community aspect of this.
I've never organised anything in my life before,
but I managed it fine _and_ made some new friends and all that stuff.

I had 3 fans I'd never met before staying with me for the weekend:
(they got to do some sightseeing and stuff too),
and I had a great time shooting the breeze with a bunch of people
I'd never met or hadn't seen for 20 years.

I'd propose that presentations given at Lunix users groups could be a
good grassroots way to get the word out.

In fact, as far as my LUG goes, I'm pretty sure a place to stay and
transportation to<->from NYC or Boston area to SE Connecticut could be
arranged for a 9'er or few of appropriate experience.

We have some people quite interested in statistics processing, in
particular via clustering/distributed computation which  would seem to
fit in well with the 9 way.

We normally meet in a small room at a Pfizer building in New London but
I suppose the draw might be a bit more, so we could arrange a larger
hall with registration.

I would love to see a 9con on the east coast, no matter what the venue

I believe (obviously) that a properly designed and implemented universal 
PKI is necessary and desirable.

I hasten to add (because one gets eaten alive if one does not) that a 
universal PKI or ID-PKI must be accompanied by a very strong privacy 
protection mechanism. I believe the privacy protection mechanism that is 
part of the Quiet Enjoyment Infrastructure will actually make it possible 
to do what P3P et al attempt to do, that is, put us in strong control of 
our own personally identifiable information.

I like what I see in Plan9 BUT I still hadn't the courage (and mainly the time) to install it in my computer (I don't even know if it can run Plan9: I've got to read the Web pages...)


 As for these meetings, I leave you a suggestion (that may or may not be viable).

 At MeetUp ( http://www.meetup.com ) one can register his interest in a specific topic and a specific city, and the site periodically and automatically generates meetings one can go.

 MeetUp lists hundreds of cities around the world (in Portugal, there're 3 available); as for topics, there're thousands of them (categorized)... Plan9 is not among them :-( but we can easily suggest it ( at http://www.meetup.com/suggest/topic ).

 I think that the topic "Plan9" should be created by someone that has some responsability over it, but if no one goes forward, and there're people interested, I could suggest it.

 Please note that MeetUp only organizes a meeting when, for a city, there're three or more persons interested in a topic.

 English is not my primary language, so I don't think I can explain these concepts as I should... So the best you can do is to go to MeetUp's site, browse the site, check the topic list and the nearest city and use it...
