the general problem is that the spec is out of control:

    mime
    java*
    activex
    cookies
    frames
    tables
    images in tables -- ug
    footnotes
    etc...

and in perpetual change [-- yes :].

Sorry for my 2 cents, again.
but I think that:

Javascript isn't a solution of the problem, of "dynamizing" of the
web-content.
It is partial solution, which a source of incompatibilities.

If you would like to hear my mind....
the WWW is an obsolete thing too.
first the web is not enough interactive,
with it web have a lot of ambiguous standards and semi-standards.
