yes, see ed(1). it's also possible to use {sam -d}, but i suspect you'll
find it easier to use ed for your particular task.
yeah, sam -d is a bit 'special'.

the most basic ed commands:
you forgot:
s/<re>/<replacement-text>/
<re> = regular expression
that can save a lot of tedious typing.
as well as:
w - write
q - quit
