From mboxrd@z Thu Jan 1 00:00:00 1970 Date: Thu, 16 Jun 2005 18:12:13 +1000 From: Adrian Tritschler To: Fans of the OS Plan 9 from Bell Labs <9fans@cse.psu.edu> Message-id: <42B1345D.5040703@ajft.org> MIME-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8; format=flowed User-Agent: Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0 (X11/20041206) Subject: [9fans] Reinstalled system won't boot Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Topicbox-Message-UUID: 5e9e06a6-ead0-11e9-9d60-3106f5b1d025 Previously I had an IBM T21 laptop with a working 8G Plan9 installation=20 on a KFS system. Since I needed more space for the Windows partition,=20 and wanted to convert the Plan9 system to fossil, I deleted the plan9=20 partition, then booted off a recent (this month) install CD and created=20 a 2.5G partition at the end of the disk. Installation all went smoothly, partitions of 9fat, nvram, fossil and=20 swap. I selected "plan9" as the boot method and it replaced my MBR as=20 expected. Attempting to reboot gets to: MBR...PBS...Plan 9 from Bell Labs ELCR: 0800 apm ax=3Df000 cx=3Df000 dx=3D40 di=3Dffff ebx=3D43b3 esi=3D-1 dev A0 port 1F0 config 045A capabilities 0F00 mwdma 0007 udma 041F and then hangs. No combination of keystrokes I've tried seems to do=20 anything. Booting from a floppy disk worked _once_, then I managed to do something=20 wrong while trying various "try this and try thats" from old 9fans and=20 screw up booting completely. I've booted off the install CD, deleted the plan9 partition, recreated=20 it, reinstalled from the CD, and reselected the "plan9" boot. Booting from the HD again gets me the above errors. Booting from the floppy now gives the following: 1. sdC0!9fat!9pcf 2. sdC0!9fat!9pcf 3. none of the above bootfile: When I select either of "1" or "2" root is from (tcp, il, local)[local!#S/sdC0/fossil]: user[none]: glenda time... fossil(#S/sdC0/fossil)...version...boot: couldn't bind $rootdir=3D/root/3= e=20 to root: '/root/3e' file does not exit boot: second bind /: '/root/3e' file does not exist panic: boot process died: unknown dumpstack disabled cpu0: exiting Where to now?
