Hi Russ-
I have had similar video problems with vmware 3.1 under Windows XP.
Looked the same as the url posted here a few days ago.

I just booted successfully in vmware using mousetest. White background,
mouse coordinates, black text. Perfect.

I look forward to a fixed boot floppy image that I can use
for Plan 9 within vmware.
