I haven't checked the kernel code very thoroughly --
is there any support for hot swapping SATA HDDs
in Plan 9?

yes. for mv50xx, iahci, and "orion".

forgot to mention that if you use 9atom, it is possible
to carefully warm plug ide-interfaced drives. you'll need
to echo identify>/dev/sd[CD][01]/ctl manually.
